ADHD Right to Choose
Right to Choose
If you believe you may have ADHD or Autism and would like to be assessed, please read the information below carefully and follow the steps provided.
NHS Waiting Times and the Right to Choose
Due to long waiting times for NHS ADHD assessments, you may be eligible to access an alternative NHS-funded provider through a scheme called Right to Choose. This initiative allows you to select from a list of approved healthcare providers—including some from the independent sector—for your initial assessment.
What You Need to Know
If you wish to pursue an assessment via Right to Choose, it’s important that you choose your provider. We are not able to do this on your behalf.
Please visit the following website for full details and a list of eligible providers:

When choosing a provider, ensure they are able to initiate medication if that is something you may wish to consider following a diagnosis. Once you are stable on the medication, the practice may agree to take on a shared care agreement with the provider and can then prescribe your medications. These prescriptions should be funded by the NHS throughout the Right to Choose process.
How to Request a Referral
Once you've selected your provider:
- Submit an eConsult via the practice website, choosing the Mental Health category.
- In your eConsult:
- Clearly state that you wish to be referred through Right to Choose.
- Include the name of your chosen provider.
- Provide a detailed statement describing your symptoms and how they affect your daily life—including home, work, and relationships. The more detail you can give, the more helpful it will be for your referral.
After we receive your eConsult, we will contact you if any further information is required—this may vary depending on the provider you've selected.
If You're Unable to Use eConsult
If you are unable to complete an eConsult, please speak to a member of our reception team. We will help you arrange an alternative way to provide the necessary information.
